Skiers in northern California watch the Pacific storms roll in and within hours of the moisture filled storm hitting the Sierras, routes 50 and 80 from the Central Valley to south and north Lake Tahoe are filled with cars heading for the snow. The ski centers, such as Sierra-at-Tahoe shown here, offer wide, powder-packed slopes, and if the sun emerges the scenery alone is worth the trip.
